About

Learn More about WOAH! Medicine

On a Mission:

WOAH involves convenient exercises that can be done without any equipment, anytime, anywhere, in order to  help you incorporate a more active lifestyle and gain the functional strength to get out and do the things you love! Functional movements take advantage of everyday tasks, use household items as equipment, and get the most out of the smallest amount of time. Learn ways to use exercise and nutrition as medicine. A full health picture involves elements of these as well as self-care, mind-body awareness, and mindfulness, while encompassing the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of your whole being. WOAH is a philosophy of living a healthy lifestyle in order to feel good today and prevent disease tomorrow.  By renewing our responsibility for health, we are empowered to heal naturally. All from home. Or wherever you want...

Background:

My personal training journey began over a decade ago in while receiving my BS in Health Sciences from Northeastern University in Boston, MA during an internship in a doctor referral program in 2007. Inspired by exercise as medicine, I earned my Personal Training Certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE) with additional trainings in Nutritional Counseling and Chronic Pain Education and specialty certifications in Orthopedic Rehabilitation and Functional Exercise.

My sessions involve addressing muscle imbalances, preventing injury, and improving movement patterns, muscular strength and endurance. For my own fitness, I train as a dancer and travel internationally as a character performer in immersive theater. I am a professional clown. I am currently in my fifth out of sixth year at naturopathic medical school learning integrative medicine and graduating as a primary care physician. My focus is in massage therapy and it is my goal to operate a body centered practice using energetic physical medicine and traditional nature cure. I am currently learning naturopathic manipulative therapy (NMT), massage therapy, cranial sacral therapy, myofascial release, visceral techniques, and Ortho-Bionomy/somatic re-education, with the intention of listening to the body rather than doing in order to facilitate its natural healing response. Light touch manual therapies can be thought of as the homeopathy of bodywork due to the profound impact of subtle techniques.  It is a dance between the practitioner and the patient.

I am a personal trainer and naturopathic medical student because these roles enable me to live my purpose of gaining knowledge so that I can share it with others and empower them to live healthier, more fulfilled lives. I believe in changing the paradigm for health. With a focus on prevention and self-care, we can help change the world. There is a different way to approach health that looks at the person as a whole and not a constellation of symptoms; thereby, treating the person and not the disease. I believe that hearing peoples’ stories, without judgement or bias, is the first step towards this shift. The next steps involve therapeutic support to facilitate the body’s innate healing abilities. Are you ready to start thinking differently about your health?
